Agnew burglar sentenced to prison, community custody

PORT ANGELES — A Port Angeles man has been sentenced to more than 2½ years in prison as part of a substance abuse treatment program after he pleaded guilty to burglary and possession of stolen property charges.

William Patrick Weems, 35, pleaded guilty to one count each of residential burglary and possession of stolen property in Clallam County Superior Court.

He was sentenced Wednesday to 30¾ months in prison and 30¾ months in community custody, and must pay $1,200 in victim assessments and court fees, according to Superior Court documents.

The charges stem from a July 19 burglary reported at an unoccupied house along U.S. Highway 101 east of Port Angeles between Dryke and Barr roads.

The burglary report triggered a four-hour manhunt for Weems in the Agnew area that ended with Weems being arrested near Bagley Creek Road after he was spotted as the passenger of a truck driving west on U.S. Highway 101.

The search involved State Patrol troopers, Border Patrol agents and a Coast Guard helicopter.
