PORT ANGELES — What vegetables should be planted now? How can you conserve water in the vegetable garden? What is eating the leaves of your broccoli plant?
Home gardeners can get the answers to these questions and other timely advice about vegetable gardening from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, June 10, during a tour led by Clallam County Master Gardeners of the Fifth Street Community Garden at 328 E. Fifth St. in Port Angeles.
The event is part of the Lunch in the Garden series sponsored by WSU Clallam County Master Gardeners that occurs on the second Friday of each month through September.
During the free one-hour walks, home gardeners can learn what needs to be done in the vegetable garden and what problems are likely to appear at that time.
This month, veteran Master Gardeners Bob Cain, Laurel Moulton, Audreen Williams and Jeanette Stehr-Green will talk about growing artichokes, edible flowers, water conservation, summertime pests and warmth-loving vegetables.
Cain joined Master Gardeners in 2009 and was Clallam County Master Gardener Foundation president from 2011-13.
Moulton has been a Master Gardener since 2006 and coordinated the WSU Master Gardener Program in Clallam County from 2012-14.
Williams joined Master Gardeners in 2012 and was the 2014 Clallam County Veteran Master Gardener of the Year co-recipient.
Stehr-Green has been a Master Gardener since 2003 and was the 2012 Clallam County Veteran Master Gardener of the Year.

The Fifth Street Community Garden is located just off Peabody, right across from City Hall.
It includes more than 50 plots that are each 9 feet by 12 feet.
The garden was developed on city property in 2011 to help connect people to the earth and their community through growing food.
