PORT TOWNSEND — Candidates for a Port of Port Townsend commission seat, as well as positions on the Brinnon Parks and Recreation District and several local school boards, topped Tuesday’s candidate filings in Jefferson County.
Entrepreneur Peter Quinn filed for the port’s Position 2, a four-year term. He will face Bill Putney, who filed for the seat Monday.
Nov. 6 election
If more than two candidates file for an office, the top two vote-getters in the Aug. 6 primary will face off in the Nov. 6 election.
The only measure on the primary ballot in Jefferson County is a $3 million bond issue from the city of Port Townsend that would benefit the Port Townsend Library.
Filing week continues through Friday.
Other filings Tuesday were:
■ Incumbent Brinnon Parks and Recreation Position 1 Commissioner Bud Schindler, filing for a four-year term.
■ Four candidates filed for three seats on the Queets/Clearwater School District. Each is a four-year term.
Incumbent Lyle Pfeifle, District 1, and Suzanna R. Kalama, District 5 incumbent, are unopposed, while incumbent Sara S. Charles and Betty Boome are running against each other in District 2.
■ Incumbent Valerie Schindler filed to run for another four-year term for the District 1 seat on the Brinnon School Board. She is currently unopposed.
■ Incumbent Roxianne Morris filed for the Brinnon Cemetery District Position 2 for a six-year term.
These are in addition to the 14 who filed Monday.
The declaration of candidacy can be filed in person at the county elections office in the basement of the county courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St. in Port Townsend, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. each day.
It also can be filed by printing out a declaration, available at a Jefferson County website devoted solely to aspiring candidates at http://tinyurl.com/coqejgx and by mailing a completed declaration to the elections office at P.O. Box 563, Port Townsend, WA 98368.
Mailed declarations must be received by Friday.
