AAUW Port Townsend plans silent auction for Feb. 20

PORT TOWNSEND — An array of new or gently used items and special experiences will be up for bid at AAUW Port Townsend’s annual silent auction Saturday, Feb. 20.

The silent auction will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Elks Lodge, 555 Otto St.

The public is welcome. Only cash and checks will be accepted for items.

Auction proceeds will go directly toward American Association of University Women educational projects and scholarships.

This year, themed tables will display hand-crafted jewelry, artwork, linens, housewares, baskets, purses, games, books, CDs/DVDs and other items.

Experiences up for bid will include an orchid greenhouse tour, a summer dinner for eight to 10 people, high tea for six, a two-hour summer sail and lunch for four, two tickets to the Wearable Art Show, two tickets to Key City Public Theatre, massages, facials, weeding assistance and genealogy sessions.

Kevin Mason, a local professional vocalist with 50 years’ experience, will serve as master of ceremonies and provide musical entertainment.

After performing, touring and recording with several dance bands, Mason was cast in the Broadway musical “Hair” and toured the country as a principal actor/soloist in that iconic production.

He later worked with many of the Northwest’s top rock promoters, collaborating with leading music stars of the day.

Mason currently performs for private and public events, either solo or with his five-piece dance band, Kevin Mason and the PT All Stars.

AAUW Port Townsend and its affiliate, the University Women’s Foundation of Jefferson County, promote education and equity through scholarships and awards, middle school career days and elementary school projects in literacy and math.

In 2015, AAUW/UWF awarded more than $40,000 in scholarships to young women in East Jefferson County and sent six middle school girls to Tech Trek, a weeklong science and math summer camp.
