AAUW, foundation selected for leadership award

CHIMACUM — The American Association of University Women and the University Women’s Foundation of Jefferson County have been selected for the 2025 Regional Community Leadership Award from the Washington Association of School Administrators.

The award recognizes “individuals or groups who demonstrate outstanding contributions to public education through leadership, service, and a lasting impact on students,” according to a press release from the Chimacum School District.

The association and its affiliated foundation are being recognized for their commitment to educational equity and opportunity in East Jefferson County, especially their support for Chimacum students, the district said.

During 2024, the foundation awarded $126,400 in scholarships across East Jefferson County as well as investing in mission-driven educational and equity-focused projects.

The awards included more than $40,000 in scholarships and educational programs directly benefiting Chimacum School District, including STEM awards, college scholarships, Tech Trek science camp sponsorships for seventh-grade girls, preschool tuition support and a graduate scholarship for a district employee pursuing an advanced degree.

Additionally, 10 association members serve in the Chimacum Literacy Program, which offers tutoring in literacy and math to young learners, demonstrating the organization’s passion for supporting children education and community growth.

“AAUW and UWF embody the spirit of community leadership,” said Scott Mauk, the superintendent of the Chimacum School District. “Their volunteers and programs help make Chimacum the heart center of a proud and vibrant community.”
