PORT ANGELES — A 47-year-old woman who was thrown to the ground and had her purse taken by a masked assailant last week wants to warn other women to be careful when walking after dark.
The woman, who asked to not be identified, was walking on C Street Extension near her residence in west Port Angeles last Thursday when a man ran up behind her and grabbed her purse.
She said she didn’t think anything of walking to the store after dark.
“I was in Port Angeles, for crying out loud.
“Other women should know that this guy is out there,” the woman said.
She described the man as wearing dark jeans, a dark hooded sweatshirt and wearing tan boots.
He stood about 6 feet tall — maybe taller — and weighed around 200 pounds, she said.
He had his hood pulled over his face, but the woman believes that he was white.
At first she resisted. But then the man pushed her to the ground and hissed through gritted teeth, “‘Let go of the purse,”‘ the woman said.
“It was pretty doggone scary.”
She wanted to scream, and tried to scream, but the shock of the attack left her with little more than a whisper.
“I was in so much shock, I just quietly said ‘no,”‘ she said.
The man pried her fingers from the purse strap and ran away. Luckily, she had her cellular telephone in a fanny pack and called the police.
