PORT ANGELES — A 93-year-old pedestrian was struck by a passenger car as she was crossing Race Street near Civic Field shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Vivian Ross of Port Angeles was taken to Olympic Medical Center with unknown injuries after she was hit by a car driven by Donald Hales, 69, also of Port Angeles.
At 9:40 p.m. Wednesday night, an OMC nursing supervisor said Ross had been admitted to the hospital and was in stable condition.
Port Angeles Police Sgt. Glen Roggenbuck said Ross was walking eastbound in the crosswalk in front of the stadium when she was struck by the southbound vehicle.
“She is undergoing treatment right now,” Roggenbuck said about an hour after the collision.
“I believe she was talking to the paramedics. . . . I believe she was responsive to them.”
Hales was interviewed at the scene and released. He may be cited with a traffic infraction or possibly charged after the investigation is complete, Roggenbuck said.
There were no signs of drugs or alcohol being involved.
Roggenbuck said two people, one of whom was wearing scrubs, had come to Ross’s aid before medics arrived.
“They were mainly just comforting her,” Roggenbuck said.
“They did the right thing — comforting her and leaving her in the position she was in.”
Race Street was closed at Civic Field during the evening commute as investigators documented the scene.
