PORT TOWNSEND — A total of 5,126 ballots — 49 percent — have been returned in an election ending today for a $33.84 million construction bond proposed by the Port Townsend School District.
The number of ballots returned validates the election, which is being conducted entirely by mail.
Mailed ballots must be postmarked by today to be counted.
Ballots will be collected until tonight at 8 o’clock at the Jefferson County Courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St., Port Townsend.
Initial results are expected shortly after the polling closes at 8 p.m.
A second ballot count is scheduled for Friday.
A 60 percent supermajority is required for the bond issue to pass.
