UPDATE: POULSBO — Police believe there is no threat at North Kitsap High School, but the district says officers are at the Poulsbo school today to reassure students.

PREVIOUS STORY:

POULSBO — A 16-year-old North Kitsap High School student was arrested late Tuesday after claiming he had a “kill list” and threatened to shoot up the school, police said.

Another student who heard the threats told his parents, who in turn called police and alerted them, said Poulsbo Police Chief Al Townsend.

Investigators obtained a search warrant and arrested the teen at his home just outside Poulsbo at about 11:40 p.m. Tuesday. He was booked into the Kitsap County juvenile facility in Port Orchard.

Townsend said weapons were found inside the teen’s home, although it was not immediately known if he had access to them.

“We’re very confident the 16-year-old is the only one involved (in the alleged plot),” Townsend said.

The student who overheard the threat said the 16-year-old claimed he had a “kill list” and was going to shoot up the school on Wednesday.

“We don’t know if the threat was made seriously,” Townsend said. “I don’t think anyone finds it funny. If there is no credibility to it, people are on edge – they don’t appreciate that humor.”

He said the student who reported the threat and his parents did the right thing.

A notification was sent out to parents of North Kitsap High School students, but Townsend said there is no further cause for alarm. But extra security will be on hand at the school on Wednesday as a precaution.
