2nd UPDATE — CORRECTED — Driver may face vehicular assault charges after crash injures 3

EDITOR’S NOTE — The State Patrol issued a new accident report late Tuesday night that corrected the circumstances of this traffic accident. This story reflects the new information from the State Patrol.

SEQUIM — Three persons were injured when two cars collided Tuesday afternoon on U.S. Highway 101 about seven miles west of Sequim.

The State Patrol said a 1996 Kia Sport driven by David A. Cole, 58, of Port Angeles, was westbound on Highway 101 approaching Fern Road at about 3 p.m. when it crossed the center line, striking an eastbound 2002 Ford Explorer driven by Jodie L. Vielle, 24, of Sequim.

Both cars came to rest in a ditch, troopers said.

The State Patrol said Cole was believed to have been driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol and may face vehicular assault charges.

Vielle, Cole and a passenger in Cole’s car, Ronald L. Williams, 55, of Port Angeles, were taken by ambulance to Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles for treatment of their injuries.

A passenger in Vielle’s car, Nathan S. Khoury, 26, of Sequim, was not injured, troopers said.

Assistant Fire Chief Ben Andrews of Clallam County Fire District No. 3 said firefighters directed traffic around the wreck, and Highway 101 was not closed.
