PORT ANGELES — Last year’s halibut season was a good one, and the 2011 fishery is shaping up to be very similar — or even a bit better,
The International Pacific Halibut Commission has set the West Coast quota at 910,000 pounds — 100,000 pounds above the 2010 quota.
Noting that increase, the state Department of Fish and Wildlife has sent tentative season regulations to the commission. These include two North Olympic Peninsula marine areas:
— Neah Bay, open in May, Thursdays and Saturdays only, for two weeks, then reopening in June if enough poundage remains
— Port Angeles/Admiralty Inlet, May 5-29, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays only plus the full Memorial Day weekend.
