2010 Clallam County Fair wraps up today (***Gallery***)

PORT ANGELES — A second day of rodeo events and a crashing, smashing demolition derby will serve as the grand finale at the Clallam County Fair today.

Gates open at 8:30 a.m., buildings open at 10 a.m. and the carnival begins at noon at the fairgrounds at 1608 W. 16th St., Port Angeles.

The fair, which opened Thursday, will close at 7 tonight.

Tickets to the fair’s popular demolition derby will be sold outside the Yellow Gate on the west side of the fairgrounds beginning at 9 a.m.

Tickets are $11 and are separate from fair admission.

Custom cars will begin their crashing and bashing at 5 p.m. in the arena in front of the grandstand.

The rodeo, sanctioned by the Northwest Professional Rodeo Association, will begin at noon in the arena.

The rodeo is free — included in general fair admission.

Tickets to the carnival rides will be available in the carnival area.

Vendors will offer fair food — everything from funnel cakes, to scones, to hot dogs, gyros and snow cones.

Music, magic and martial arts will be performed on the Sunny Farms and Wilder stages, while roving musicians will entertain throughout the fairgrounds.

Children’s tractor pulls are scheduled at the Kids Zone from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., and 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

A variety of animal shows and exhibits are set at the cat, rabbit and poultry, and goat barns, as well as in the dog, horse, cattle and sheep and swine arenas.

A special event will be the kissing of a pig by the veterinarian who has raised the most donations for 4-H.

The veterinarian who “wins” the Clallam County 4-H Leaders Council’s Kiss the Pig contest will do the honors at 1:30 p.m. in the sheep and swine arena.

Donations — which include a vote for a veterinarian — will be accepted at the rabbit and cat barns until 12:45 p.m. today.

Admission to the fair is $7.50 for adults 18 and older, $5.50 for people 62 and older and students from 13 to 17 years old, and $4.50 for children from 6 to 12. Children 5 and younger, accompanied by adults, are free.

Parking is free.
