20-year-old Port Angeles man faces June 1 trial on various charges

PORT ANGELES — Ordez Eugene Kompkoff, who faces a June 1 trial in Clallam County Superior Court, pleaded not guilty Friday to charges related to the March burglary of a Port Angeles residence.

The 20-year-old pleaded not guilty to aggravated residential burglary, first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful imprisonment and third-degree escape.

Kompkoff, a Port Angeles transient who was charged March 26, remained in the Clallam County jail Saturday on $75,500 bail. A status hearing is set for May 8.

Port Angeles police had sought Kompkoff after a reported drive-by shooting on Orcas Avenue on March 18 and a home invasion at 913 E. Ninth St. on March 20.

When Kompkoff was spotted just before midnight March 20 during a traffic stop, police say he fled on foot.

Kompkoff allegedly invaded the Ninth Street home shortly thereafter, commandeered the residents’ telephone and was picked up by another party.

Police pursued him March 21, but he fled.

Charging papers allege that Kompkoff, who has a prior conviction of second-degree burglary, illegally possessed a .40-caliber pistol during the commission of the burglary and imprisonment.

Kompkoff was arrested March 31 after another foot chase.

Tracked to home

He was tracked to a West Ninth Street residence by Port Angeles police dog Jag and his handler, Cpl. Kevin Miller, and was arrested just before 2 p.m.

The pursuit prompted a two-hour modified lockdown of Lincoln High, Stevens Middle and Hamilton Elementary schools and the North Olympic Peninsula Skills Center.

The State Patrol, Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Border Patrol, Office of Air and Marine, and Elwha police assisted city police in the manhunt.

Two weeks earlier, residents in the Orcas Avenue area reported hearing gunshots near Sea View Apartments, 2215 S. Chase St., at about 7:20 a.m.

There were no injuries or damage.

Police found .40-caliber shell casings near where a witness had reported seeing a person pointing a handgun toward the apartment building from the window of a white four-door passenger car.
