2-year, 3-month prison sentence in Forks rape case

PORT ANGELES — A Forks man has been sentenced to two years and three months in prison after pleading guilty to third-degree rape of a child.

Brett Lee Card, 24, admitted that he had had sex with a 12-year-old girl in a vacant house in Forks in December 2013, court papers said.

Card was originally charged with second-degree rape of a child. He pleaded guilty to third-degree rape of a child and was sentenced by Clallam County Superior Court Judge Erik Rohrer on Thursday.

Community supervision afterward

After his release, Card will be on three years of community supervision and will have to register as a sex offender, Clallam County Deputy Prosecutor Michele Devlin said.

Card has previous felony convictions for bail jump, malicious mischief and burglary, according to the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

The girl told Forks police she and Card had had sex in a vacant house in Forks.

Forks police said they found a used condom in the house.

A State Patrol crime lab test showed a positive match with DNA from Card and the girl.
