PORT ANGELES – The 2-1-1 non-emergency help line is now live across the state, announced Jody Moss, executive director of the United Way of Callam County.
The 2-1-1 number went live in Clallam, Jefferson and Kitsap counties in October.
Known as Peninsula’s 2-1-1, it connects callers with a call center in Bremerton that can make social service referrals to agencies near the caller, or find help for a friend or relative in another part of the state.
The statewide coverage of the Washington Information Network 2-1-1 line, which began the last week of January, means that a person in the North Olympic Peninsula could contact service agencies for relatives or friends in other parts of the state.
The help line, an information and referral line for social services, now reaches more than six million people in the state, with eight call centers activated, said Moss in a written statement.
The centers are connected to one another and work together, having more than 30,000 local, state and national resources in the database, said Moss.
The 2-1-1 line “is a free, confidential, and easy to remember information and referral hot line for accessing help, all kinds of help,” she said.
“From really critical services like shelter or drug and alcohol treatment to services like help with our aging parents, or help with our teenage children, 2-1-1 can get us connected.”
