First-day candidate filings for local offices in Jefferson County found 19 hopefuls signing up at the County Auditor’s Office for 44 positions in the Sept. 20 primary.
The deadline for making the Sept. 20 primary ballot is Friday at 5 p.m.
The general election is Nov. 8. Deadline to register to vote in the primary is Sept. 5.
All but two of the candidates filing on opening day are seeking nonpartisan elections.
But two, acting Superior Court Clerk Ruth Gordon and Port Townsend resident Tammi Rubert, will compete in the primary for the Democratic nomination for the position.
No candidates from other parties had filed as of Monday, the auditor’s office reported.

* Kees Kolff filed for re-election to Port Townsend City Council Position No. 5.
* Port Townsend resident Scott Walker filed for City Council Position No. 2 being vacated by Councilwoman Freida Fenn.
* Two candidates filed Monday for the Port of Port Townsend District No. 2 commissioner position, occupied by Conrad Pirner. They are Gary Rossow and Gloria Bram, both of Port Townsend.
* Herb Beck of Quilcene filed for re-election to his Port District No. 3 commissioner position.
* Fire District No. 1 Commissioner Ed Davis of Chimacum filed for re-election to his Position No. 2.
* Quilcene resident Julie McClanahan filed for the Fire District No. 2 commissioner position No. 3.
* Two Fire District No. 3 commissioners, Bob Pontius and Mike Porter, filed for re-election to their respective positions Nos. 1 and 3.
* Port Townsend resident Barbara Knoepfle filed for Fire District No. 5 commissioner Position No. 1.
* Water District No. 1 Commissioner Roy Carlson of Port Ludlow filed for re-election to Position No. 2.
* Water District No. 2 Commissioner Barbara Schurman of Brinnon filed for re-election to Position No. 2.
* Public Hospital District No. 1 Commissioner Kathy Dickson of Forks filed for re-election to Position No. 1, which includes West Jefferson County.
* Public Hospital District No. 2 Commissioner Anthony “Tony” DeLeo of Port Hadlock filed for re-election to Position No. 2.
* Port Townsend School District Director Rita Beebe filed for re-election to Position No. 2.
* Quilcene School District Director Kit Siemion filed for re-election to Position No. 2.
* Quilcene School District Director Daryle Starnes filed for re-election to Position No. 5.
