Jefferson Healthcare developing mobile health clinic

At Jefferson Healthcare, we’re always looking for ways to make high-quality care easier to access for people in East Jefferson County. To help reduce barriers to care, especially for community members who live in remote areas, we’re developing a mobile health clinic.

The mobile health clinic stems from another initiative – the Jefferson Healthcare Dental Clinic. It’s unusual for a hospital to offer dental care, but virtually unheard of for a small provider like us. But several years ago, we saw that there was a need in the community for dental care, particularly among people on Medicaid because many dental clinics don’t accept that form of insurance.

The dental clinic has been a huge success. For the past five years, we’ve been able to provide dental care to patients who wouldn’t otherwise have been able to access it. In fact, in 2023, there were 5,670 visits to the dental clinic!

Why a mobile clinic?

One challenge for our existing dental clinic is that it’s in Port Townsend. For many people, especially folks in the southern part of the county, that’s out of the way and doesn’t make dental care any easier to access.

To help serve these patients, and others who aren’t able to travel to the clinic in Port Townsend, we want to make care mobile. For that reason, part of the mobile clinic will be dedicated to providing dental care. But we don’t want to stop there. With a mobile clinic, we’ll have the ability to offer multiple services, such as vaccinations, primary care, behavioral health, financial counseling, and more.

Collecting community input

There is a desperate need for additional services in the most geographically underserved parts of East Jefferson County. To ensure that the care we provide through the mobile clinic meets the needs of the communities we serve, we need your input.

How can you help? Contact us and let us know what you’d like to see offered in the mobile clinic. You can email your comments to Marketing@JeffersonHealthcare.org.

With your help, we’ll work to ensure more people in East Jefferson County get access to the high-quality care they need.

Thank you for allowing us to be your community healthcare provider. We’re honored to serve you.
