Choosing the right health insurance plan made easy + tips on important changes

Port Townsend team of insurance experts has your best interest at heart

The team at Kristin Manwaring Insurance (KMi) wants to help you with the complexities of choosing the right plan. With both the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period and Open Enrollment Period for individuals and families, many people are reviewing their options for 2023.

KMi can help compare options during this time but is also there to help year-round. They also have helpful information about two important changes to health care coverage that can make a real difference to families.

Two enrollment periods that are upon us

Medicare Annual Enrollment Period runs Oct. 15 to Dec. 7 – generally the one time of year a Medicare beneficiary can enroll in or change Part D prescription drug or Medicare Advantage plans.

Individual and Family Open Enrollment Period runs Nov. 1 to Jan. 15 – enrollment must take place by Dec. 15 for a Jan. 1 effective date. This is the one time of year to enroll in or change plans without a qualifying life event, such as a birth, a move or loss of coverage.

Family Glitch

Since the rollout of the Affordable Care Act in 2010, there’s been a lot of frustration about a known flaw called the “Family Glitch.”

It prevented anyone in the household from receiving tax credits if they were offered affordable health insurance through their employer. Because the calculation to determine tax credit eligibility was based only on the employee’s cost to enroll on the lowest cost option, many families found themselves without an affordable health insurance option.

As of Jan. 1, 2023, this will be corrected, and many more households will find themselves eligible to receive tax credits.

Cascade Care

Also on Jan. 1, 2023, the state of Washington will implement a state subsidy program called Cascade Care Savings. To be eligible, enrollees must have a household income below 250 percent of the Federal Poverty Level, be enrolled on a Cascade Care Silver or Gold plan and be taking advantage of all the federal tax credits available to them.

“We’re really excited for both changes because they offer increased access to affordable health care coverage for our clients and the community,” Gabrielle Vanwert of Kristin Manwaring Insurance says. “With so many legislative changes, and the overlap of state and federal rules, it’s nice to feel like we can help our clients handle what seems like a constantly changing landscape. We offer guidance and consultation, not just for choosing a plan, but we’re also a liaison between the client, the insurance company and the Washington Health Insurance Exchange.”

With more than 80 combined years in the health insurance industry, the Kristin Manwaring Insurance team is committed to providing exceptional service every step of the way.

“Jim at KMi absolutely saved us!” raves client Lindsay H. “Adding an adopted newborn to our insurance proved extremely difficult and time consuming on multiple fronts. Jim allowed me to delegate this to him, and off he went. I appreciate so much that it wasn’t work I had to do while getting our newly expanded family all settled.

“Their knowledge and helpfulness are unmatched!”
