Centrum debuts new exhibition series with installation by Jessica Plumb

Centrum proudly presents ‘Inner Space,’ an immersive exhibition born from the collaboration of artists Jessica Plumb, Aura Shahaf Woelfle, and the late Michelle Mackenzie Felsenhardt. This groundbreaking installation located in Fort Worden State Park, is part of Centrum’s In the Making residency program, invites viewers on a profound journey through light, video, sound, fabric, and glass.

Inspired by the universal themes of mortality and impermanence, “Inner Space” explores the depths of human experience. Michelle Mackenzie Felsenhardt, whose battle with cancer fuelled the project’s inception, envisioned it as a gateway to the essence of existence. Her untimely passing imbues the installation with a poignant legacy, drawing from her Chilean and Polish heritage.

Visitors to ‘Inner Space’ embark on a transformative passage illuminated by shimmering moonlight. Fabric, designed by Michelle, weaves narratives into the space, while suspended glass pieces bridge worlds above and below. Video projections create an ethereal atmosphere, evoking a liminal realm where questions of life and death converge.

As part of the ‘In the Making’ residency, the artistic team continues to expand upon the project’s initial inquiry. Embracing the impermanence of life, they invite others to contribute to the evolving artwork, leaving their mark and perhaps letting something go in the process. Through interaction and engagement, ‘Inner Space’ evolves, becoming a collective reflection of the human condition.

The creative ensemble behind the Centrum installation includes Jessica Plumb, renowned for her documentary filmmaking, and Aura Shahaf Woelfle, a versatile glass artist from Brooklyn. They are joined by Jessica Krichels and David Plumb, Michelle Mackenzie’s partner, who further enrich the project with their unique perspectives and talents.
