Wild Birds to host Owloween Saturday in Gardiner

The store on U.S. Highway 101 will host birds of prey from Discovery Bay Wild Bird Rescue, including an owl named Gandalf.

GARDINER — Wild Birds Unlimited will help kids and adults get into the Halloween excitement Saturday with birds of prey and Harry Potter-themed events at its store.

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Discovery Bay Wild Bird Rescue will present its non-releasable education birds of prey at the store, 275953 U.S. Highway 101 as part of its Owloween event.

Cynthia and Connor Daily, the volunteers from Discovery Bay Wild Bird Rescue, will have a number of birds on hand that have been adopted from a New Mexico facility that closed its doors.

The new birds include a white morph great horned owl appropriately named Gandalf.

Cynthia Daily has been a rehabilitator for more than 20 years, starting in Albuquerque, N.M., in 1986, and transferring her knowledge and interest when she moved to Port Townsend in 1994 when she started Discovery Bay Raptor Center.

The store will have refreshments, special pricing on all owl products in the shop, a raffle to support the rescue center and door prizes for the best Harry Pottery costumes throughout the day.

The rescue center also asks for donations of paper towels, Kleenex, potty pads (human or puppy), laundry baskets, heating pads, dog or cat food (wet or dry), towels, new or gently used wool blankets, vet wrap, clothespins, bleach, Dawn dish soap, hair dryers, playpens and gift certificates to Walmart, Petco or Wild Birds Unlimited.

For more information, call the store at 360-797-7100.
