SEQUIM — Music from “Les Misérables” and “Swan Lake” will share the space as the Sequim City Band gives the final concert of its 20th anniversary season at the Sequim High School Performing Arts Center, 601 N. Sequim Ave. on Sunday.
The band will strike up at 3 p.m., and, as always, admission is free to the concert.
The band always begins with “The Star-Spangled Banner,” but for Sunday’s performance the Sequim High School Vocal Ensemble will step up to sing a special arrangement with director John Lorentzen leading the way.
Night’s announcers
Also for this final concert, Jim and Carol Swarbrick Dries will serve as the announcers. The couple, who appeared in the concert version of “Titanic” at Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre in April, are active members of the music and theater community on the North Olympic Peninsula.
Among other projects, they co-founded Readers Theatre Plus, a troupe that donates all proceeds to nonprofit groups.
The Sequim City Band will travel across the musical map Sunday, offering works including:
■ Frank Ticheli’s arrangement of “Amazing Grace.”
■ Mozart’s “Concert Rondo” for French horn, with soloist Robert Nathan.
■ “Variations on Themes by Tchaikovsky,” a work featuring music from “Swan Lake” and “The Nutcracker.”
■ Sousa’s “Bullets and Bayonets” march.
■ “La Virgen de la Macarena,” a traditional Spanish piece, with solos by trumpeter Bob Hagan and clarinetist Miles Vokurka.
■ Highlights From “Jersey Boys,” the Broadway musical with songs such as “Walk Like a Man” and “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You.”
■ Henry Mancini’s “Pie in the Face Polka” from the 1965 movie “The Great Race.”
■ “Rolling Thunder” by Henry Fillmore.
■ “The Slavic Women’s Farewell,” a Russian work in honor of the Slavic women accompanying their husbands in the first Balkan War.
This is the Sequim City Band’s farewell for 2012.
Already, though, the first concert of 2013 is slated for Sunday, March 10, in the Sequim High School Performing Arts Center.
