WEEKEND: Self-guided tour offers weekend of wine, cheese

The Olympic Peninsula Wineries’ fourth annual Northwest Wine & Cheese Tour is Saturday and Sunday.

The self-guided tour at the eight participating wineries will be between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. each day.

New wine releases and ciders will be paired with cheeses from artisan creameries.

Participating cheesemakers are Mystery Bay Farm of Marrowstone Island, Port Townsend’s Mt. Townsend Creamery and Whiskey Hill Farm, Willapa Hills Farmstead of Doty and Gothberg Farm, Golden Glen Creamery of Bow and Backcountry Creamery of Tacoma.

Photographs taken of the venues can be entered into the group’s inaugural Sip Wine & Cider, Say Cheese Photo Contest.

Photos can be submitted to the Olympic Peninsula Winery Association’s Facebook Page, accessible from the group’s website at www.olympicpeninsulawineries.org.

Those judged to be the top three by members of the association will be posted to the Facebook page, and the photographers will win a pair of tickets to the Harvest Wine Tour, Nov. 11-13.

Advance tickets for the self-guided tour are available online for $30 and entitle the holder to a commemorative wine glass and wine- and cheese-tasting at all eight wineries.

They are available through the association’s website.

Independently, each winery will charge a $5 fee.
