PORT TOWNSEND — A large European-style auto rally will be held at Memorial Field in Port Townsend on Saturday.
Hundreds of European cars participating in Port Townsend Cruise are expected to arrive in Port Townsend from the Seattle area at about noon Saturday.
Car owners will park and display their vehicles on the field and city streets during the afternoon before heading home.
The event is sponsored by Redmond’s Achtuning, an online German car-parts business, which can be found at www.achtuning.com.
The group describes the Port Townsend Cruise as the “jump-start” event for the Pacific Northwest European car community season.
Drivers gather between 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. at Pacific Raceways in Kent and cruise through Kitsap County and into Jefferson County.
Food bank donations
Donations of nonperishable food items will be accepted for Northwest Harvest.
Achtuning will provide “parking passes” in Memorial Field in exchange for a minimum of four cans of food, the company said.
Jefferson County Parks and Recreation told the group earlier this week that, despite wet weather, Memorial Field is not expected to be too soggy for cars, the group said on its website at www.porttownsendcruise.com.
“Jefferson County Parks has reserved the right to cancel use of Memorial Field at the last minute in the unlikely event a monsoon comes along and completely floods the field between now and Saturday,” the website said.
“Should that happen, it’ll be a free-for-all with regard to in-town parking.”
The group stressed to members that they should drive carefully and safely.
“Respect the Port Townsend community and other communities that we pass through,” it said on its website.
