OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK —— National Junior Ranger Day will be celebrated from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
The celebration is on the final weekend of National Park Week, which began last Saturday.
Entrance fees into Olympic National Park will be waived through Sunday.
On Saturday, children accompanied by adults are invited to the park’s visitor center at 3002 Mount Angeles Road in Port Angeles.
Activities are free.
Ranger walks
Thirty-minute ranger-guided walks are scheduled at 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m.
Space is limited. People are urged to sign up for the walks as soon as they arrive at the visitor center.
From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., several of the park’s pack mules — which help keep the 300-mile trail system in good condition — will be at the visitor center.
Microscopes will be set up for up-close looks at insects and plants, and the Children’s Discovery Room will be open for activities.
Those who complete enough activities can earn National Junior Ranger Day prizes.
“If you’re already a Junior Ranger, we hope you’ll wear your badge and be recognized for your achievements,” said Olympic National Park Acting Superintendent Todd Suess.
“For all other kids, we invite you to bring your families and join in the fun and become a Junior Ranger.”
The park’s Junior Ranger program is year-round.
Children complete Junior Ranger activity booklets, attend a ranger program and explore park nature trails to earn badges and certificates.
