After the sweet (but fattening) delights of the holiday, many may feel the urge to get out and walk, run or dance.
Opportunities abound on the North Olympic Peninsula this weekend.

Here is a sample of activities to enjoy this weekend.
Weekend hikes
The Olympic Outdoor Club will host hikes on Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday’s hike will be the Staircase Rapids Trail, a four-mile hike described as easy, with an elevation gain of 150 feet and a high point at 950 feet.
Sunday’s hike will be on the North Fork Skokomish River Trail, a moderately easy hike of 11 miles round trip, with an elevation gain of 700 feet and a high point at 1,550 feet.
For both, hikers from the Quimper Peninsula will meet at 9 a.m. at the Quimper Credit Union in Port Hadlock, while hikers from Port Angeles and Sequim will meet at 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 101 and state Highway 20 in Discovery Bay.

Nature walk slated
PORT TOWNSEND — The Jefferson Land Trust will host a nature walk in the Quimper Wildlife Corridor from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
Attendees will meet at the state Department of Natural Resources gate on the west side of North Jacob Miller Road in Port Townsend.
It is an “easy walk on uneven terrain,” said Barbara Arnn of Jefferson Land Trust.
Participants should wear weather-appropriate footwear and clothing.
The walk is free and open to the public.

Discovery Trail walk
SEQUIM — The Olympic Peninsula Explorers Volkssport Club plans a walk on the Discovery Trail today.
The free walk will follow the Discovery Trail to Robin Hill Farm County Park. Both 5-kilometer and 12-kilometer options are available.
Participants will meet at 9 a.m. at the Sequim QFC, 990 E. Washington St.

Art, gift show
PORT ANGELES — The last days of the Port Angeles Fine Art Center’s “Holiday Gift Show” are Saturday and Sunday.
The show at the center at 1203 E. Lauridsen Blvd., will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. It will be closed today.
Admission is free.
This is the center’s second annual Art Is a Gift show. Opening a month ago, the eclectic show offers work from some four dozen artists, and includes paintings, prints, jewelry, ceramics, glass, woodworking, photography, wearables and ornaments, with a wide range of prices.
The show is a fundraiser for the art center.

Dancing on Sunday
PORT ANGELES — Folk and ballroom dancing are planned at the Sons of Norway Hall on Sunday.
The dance at the hall at 131 W. Fifth St., Port Angeles, will begin at 6:30 p.m. with 30 minutes of instruction, followed by dancing.
Refreshments will be served at 9 p.m.
