WEEKEND: Lavender, Santa showcased at holiday bazaar today, Saturday

SEQUIM — If you missed Sequim’s Lavender Weekend back in July — or if you just want to revisit the scented memory — a flock of farmers has an event for you.

The Sequim Lavender Growers Association’s Lavender Holiday Bazaar brings about 10 vendors together with a poster-art preview, prize drawings, soup, sandwiches and Santa Claus.

Today and Saturday

Admission is free.

The bazaar is open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

It is at the Guy Cole Convention Center in Carrie Blake Park, 202 N. Blake Ave.

Shoppers can browse among the lotions, sachets, pillows and other gifts from Let’s Do Lavender, Sequim Essence, Nelson’s Duck Pond and Lavender Farm, Country Aire Lavender Farm, Blackberry Forest, Lord Jensen Lavender, Sequim Lavender Co. and Montevista Medicinal Herb Farm, all of whom belong to the growers association.

“We work really hard all year for the association, so this is kind of a bonus,” said Susan Zuspan of Let’s Do Lavender.

“We have a really good time: We meet, we make Christmas decorations, and we put them on the tree,” which becomes a prize in one of the drawings at the bazaar.

Tickets to the drawing are $1 each to benefit the local Toys for Tots effort.

Those who bring a new, unwrapped gift for a child or a teenager will receive a free ticket, Zuspan noted.

The Sunbonnet Sue Quilt Club donated a quilt for the other drawing. Proceeds from the $1 tickets benefit the Sequim High School scholarship program.

Soup and sandwiches will be available Saturday only, while the other attractions are both today and Saturday.

Santa Claus

Santa Claus will be conversing with visitors and handing out candy canes between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday.

Also throughout this 10th annual bazaar, lavender lovers can see the candidates for the growers association’s 2013 Lavender Festival poster.

Artists from across the Northwest are entering the poster competition, and while the association ultimately chooses the artwork, shoppers at the bazaar can vote in the People’s Choice contest.

“Bring your camera,” added Mary Jendrucko of Sequim Lavender Co.

“And if you love to give gifts that were made in Sequim, this is your chance.”
