WEEKEND: Holiday bazaars a sign of Christmas

As Christmas draws near, holiday bazaars offer a wealth of items for gifts across the North Olympic Peninsula.

Here is a sample of the festive shopping opportunities this weekend, listed by community.

PORT ANGELES

Vern Burton fair

PORT ANGELES — The Vern Burton Christmas Fair will offer a variety of goods by more than 40 artisans this weekend.

The fair, which is sponsored by the city of Port Angeles at the Vern Burton Community Center, 308 E. Fourth St., will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Santa will visit from noon to 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

Admission is free.

A multi-item raffle will be held, with prizes donated by fair vendors. Tickets are $1 each.

Bazaar at library

PORT ANGELES — The annual Holiday Bazaar sponsored by the Port Angeles Friends of the Library will be held today through Sunday.

The three-day bazaar will be at the library at 2210 S. Peabody St. from noon to 5 p.m. today, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

The event features a Toyland for children and a selection of gift baskets for all occasions.

A raffle for Christmas-related items will be held. Tickets are 50 cents.

PTO hosts bazaar

PORT ANGELES — The Hamilton Parent-Teacher Organization Holiday Bazaar is this weekend.

The bazaar at Hamilton Elementary School, 1822 W. Seventh St., will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.

In addition to crafts, jewelry and holiday items, the event will include a book fair, Santa’s Workshop and face-painting and hairstyling for kids.

Seniors host sales

PORT ANGELES — Residents of the Highland Commons Apartments, a senior living facility, will hold a bake sale, craft sale and flea market from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

The event will be at 1703 E. Melody Circle.

Residents are raising funds to help with extra holiday expenses.

Benefit art sale

PORT ANGELES — A reception for The Landing Art Gallery’s “Small Wonders & Tiny Treasures” show and sale, which will benefit the Port Angeles Food Bank, is set from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

The reception for the show, which will continue through December, will feature food from Smugglers Landing and a concert by Paul Chasman, and will be downstairs at The Landing mall at 115 E. Railroad Ave.

It includes a no-host bar and free burgers in exchange for nonperishable items for the food bank.

Half of all show sales will be donated to the food bank.

The show contains 70 miniature paintings — 8 inches by 10 inches maximum — priced at $100 or less.

The show was juried by Robin Anderson, the new director of the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center.

SEQUIM

Handmade craft fair

SEQUIM — Sequim Prairie Grange will present its 34th annual Handmade Craft Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

All items for sale at the grange sale at 290 Macleay Road are handmade.

A lunch and bake sale also are planned.

Gala gift show

SEQUIM — Soroptimist International of Sequim is sponsoring a gala gift show at the Sequim Boys & Girls Club, 400 W. Fir St., from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

An expected 45 vendors will offer a variety of gift items, and the event will include a Holiday Baked Goods and Rainshadow Coffee Bar.

See’s Candies will be available in holiday gift wrap.

PORT TOWNSEND/JEFFERSON COUNTY

Artisan sale slated

PORT TOWNSEND — A Gifts from the Garage Artisan Sale will be held at 90 Bayview Lane in the Discovery Bay Heights development from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Discovery Bay Studios will offer a variety of hand-crafted items, including hand-woven scarves, sterling and precious stone jewelry, hand-thrown pottery and more.

Discovery Bay Heights is located a half-mile from the Discovery Bay Golf Course off South Discovery Road.

Bazaar at Legion

PORT TOWNSEND — A Christmas Bazaar sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post 26 will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Organizers promise “tons of arts and crafts,” and holiday photos will be taken and printed on-site by Melissa Morse of Snap Happy Photography.

The event will be held at the American Legion Post, corner of Water and Monroe streets.

Proceeds will kick off fundraising for the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life for Team Legion.

Craft fair

BRINNON —A Christmas craft fair is set at the Booster Club building at 151 Corey St. from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

New and handcrafted items will be for sale.

A basket raffle will raise money for graduating seniors from Brinnon and Quilcene.

Tickets are $1 each. The three baskets for this year are themed “Pie in the Sky,” ”Mexican Fiesta” and “Red Caboose Get-Away.”

FORKS/WEST END

Awana Christmas Fest

JOYCE — Joyce Bible Church, 50470 state Highway 112, will hold its annual Joyce Awana Christmas Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The event includes a decorated tree auction, live and silent auctions, music, food, a Nativity and an archery competition open to all ages.

Coffee, tea, punch and cookies will be offered free.

Refreshments will be served.
