PORT ANGELES — With spring just around the corner, where does a homeowner find a contractor to help prepare for the coming season or repair what didn’t survive the winter?
Visitors can find information on new garden tractors, home decor, finding a health care organization, pet care and other services at the KONP Home Show at the Port Angeles High School gymnasium at 304 E. Park Ave. this weekend.
Hours will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Admission is free.
For 30 years, the KONP Home Show has served as a gathering place for North Olympic Peninsula businesses to show their wares and for customers to gather information on services available in the area.
“It’s exciting to see how it’s grown,” said Stan Comeau, sales manager for KONP AM 1450 and FM 102.1, which sponsors the event with the Clallam County Public Utility District.
More than 180 booths
This year, the show will have more than 180 booths, featuring a wider variety of exhibitors than it has in the past, including many who are more about the North Olympic Peninsula lifestyle than brick-and-mortar homes, Comeau said.
Comeau said the event typically attracts between 7,000 and 10,000 people, but that number is just a guess because visitors tend to wander in and out.
Similar shows in Seattle this year have drawn fewer exhibitors but more attendees than past years, he said.
Door prizes will be offered at the free show, including a grand prize of $30,000 or a second prize of a 2012 Nissan Sentra, from Peninsula Bottling and Wilder Toyota.
Twenty-five visitors will be selected to participate in a dice game using special dice.
The first competitor whose dice spell out KONP AM — with letters in any order — will win the grand prize, $30,000 in cash.
The first player who rolls five of the six letters wins the car, Comeau said.
Virtual Home Show
New this year will be the unveiling of a virtual Home Show, a website that features Home Show-type exhibits online.
It will be previewed at the show Saturday and this weekend will be accessible only from computers there at the real Home Show.
The website, www.thekonphomeshow.com, was made available to the public Thursday.
The Home Show started in 1982 at the Vern Burton Community Center and has grown each year since then.
