WEEKEND: First Friday Walk connects community with creators

SEQUIM — “Movers and Shakers.” “Visions Revealed.” Live jazz and people dressed in red: Those are but a few highlights of tonight’s art party in and around downtown Sequim.

This is a free party, and it’s for everybody, every first Friday of the month from 5 p.m. till 8 p.m. And the event keeps expanding, to include not only galleries but also places you might not expect to find an art show with refreshments and live music.

And to give people a way to connect with the art and color around them, First Friday Art Walk organizer Renne Brock-Richmond has picked out colors for each month.

They’re not hard to predict: February is red, March is green, April pink, May aqua, June white, July purple, August yellow, September blue, October orange, November brown and December gold.

Art walkers have been telling Brock-Richmond their plans for wearing red tonight, while the venues have been hanging their art displays and dishing up snacks and drinks.

Shows on the art walk — with a free public reception at 5 p.m. today — include:

■ “Visions Revealed: A Photographic Invitational Show,” featuring local photographers Ernst-Ulrich Schafer, Charlotte Watts, DJ Bassett and many others, plus live classical guitar music by Carl Honoré, tonight at the Museum & Arts Center, 175 W. Cedar St.

■ “Movers and Shakers,” with featured artists Carol Eichler, Jeff Tocher and Steve Wry, showing a diverse mix at the Blue Whole, 129 W. Washington St.

■ Songstress Sarah Shea and her band, Chez Jazz, plus paintings and mixed-media art by Linda Stadtmiller at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., together for a free concert from 5:30 till 7:30 tonight.

■ “Happy hour” at the Creative Cafe art bar is in fact two hours from 5 p.m. till 7 p.m. at Doodlebugs scrapbooking shop, 138 W. Washington St.

■ Photography by Barbara Lippert and refreshments including chocolates at Pacific Mist Books, 121 W. Washington St.

■ Watercolors by Amy Weber and treats by Dianne Drake at the Sunshine Café, 145 W. Washington St.

■ Paintings by Pamela Hastings at Red Rooster Grocery, 1341/2 W. Washington St.

■ Photography by Jeanette Cozart at The Buzz, 128 N. Sequim Ave.

■ Art by Shirley Mercer at the walk’s newest addition, Prairie Springs Assisted Living, 680 W. Prairie St.
