WEEKEND: Donations sought for USO-inspired veterans benefit

FORKS — Organizers are seeking donations for a USO-inspired 1940s-themed party planned in October as a benefit for Sarge’s Place, a transitional-housing project for veterans.

The family-friendly event will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Roundhouse, 110 Industrial Park at the intersection of U.S. Highway 101 and state Highway 110.

The benefit will include live music, desserts, classic cars and military vehicles, pin-up clothing and an art auction, with admission by donation.

Donations are being accepted now, especially for original pieces of artwork for the auction,

The event also will include the unveiling of a clay miniature version of a statue of Lance Cpl. Jason Hanson.

Hanson was born and raised in Forks and was killed in action in Iraq in 2006.

The miniature will show the pose that will be cast for the life-sized bronze statue.

Artist Jeff Oen will be on-site to discuss the process of creating the bronze piece.

To make a donation for this fundraiser or donate an original artwork for the auction, phone Cheri Fleck at 360-374-5252 or email cherifleck@gmail.com.
