WEEKEND: Building expo sets up shop at Sequim High School this weekend

SEQUIM — More than 70 vendors will offer goods, services and information at the North Peninsula Building Association’s 15th annual Building, Remodeling and Energy Expo at Sequim High School this weekend.

The expo will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the high school at 601 N. Sequim Ave.

Admission is free.

The expo is for anyone planning to build, remodel or to “make it green” by converting to more energy-efficient or environmentally sensitive facilities.

“It’s a great opportunity for people to come and meet tradespeople and suppliers,” said FaLeana Wech, executive officer for the building association.

High turnout expected

Last year’s show drew an estimated 3,500 people, Wech said, and she expects a higher turnout this year.

“Our counterparts throughout the state say this has been best year for shows in five years,” Wech said.

Free lectures and demonstrations are planned from 9:15 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Saturday and from 10:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

The seminars will deal with solar power, heating options and home energy audits; home financing; backyard composting, gardening, landscaping and noxious weeds; tips for selecting a builder and design options; the dos and don’ts of manufactured homes; and birdhouses.

Two drawings are planned for $250 gift certificates for any of the vendors at the show.

It will not be necessary to be present to win.

The Clallam County Public Utility District is a capstone sponsor, while cornerstone sponsors are Angeles Millwork & Lumber Co., and Hartnagel Building Supply, First Federal, Sequim Gazette, Strait Flooring, KSQM 91.5 FM radio and Bliemeister’s Wood World.
