WEEKEND: Bike scavenger hunt to scour sites at Gibbs Lake County Park

CHIMACUM — Riders of all skill levels are invited to take to their bikes during the free Lost in the Woods Bicycle Scavenger Hunt on Saturday.

It will be at Gibbs Lake County Park, on Gibbs Lake Road off West Valley Road in Chimacum, and will begin at 10 a.m.

Bike-riding scavenger hunts are planned for both children and adults as well as a Strider Adventure Zone for the youngest riders.

Bob’s Bagels will offer for sale bagels and bagel sandwiches.

The Strider Adventure Zone, designed for Strider bikes for young riders — from 18 months to 5 years old — will kick off at 10 a.m.

The event will feature gentle twists, turns, bumps and swoops for those just learning to ride.

Children can bring their own Strider-style bikes or use one of the demo Striders.

A scavenger hunt for children from 5 to 12 years old will begin at 11:30 a.m., with prizes for those who find the most clues along the Doc Werner and Scout trails.

Adults can accompany their children, and volunteers will be on hand to ensure everyone stays on course.

Two special clues and two skill challenges offer the chance to collect bonus points.

The scavenger hunt for those 12 and older will start at 1 p.m.

It will combine navigating some of Gibbs Lake Park’s most twisting trails with the quest for hidden clues.

There are three optional skill challenges, and two secret clues lurk in the woods for more bonus points.

Prizes will be given to those who collect the most clues and points.

All riders must sign registration and release forms before participating in any events, and all riders must wear helmets.

Parking is limited, so attendees are urged to carpool.

Jefferson County Parks and The Broken Spoke bike shop are sponsoring the event.

For more information, phone Sarah Albert or Nicole Sexton at 360-379-1295.
