PORT ANGELES — Port Book and News will present author Aaron Elkins in the Raymond Carver Room at Port Angeles Public Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., at 7 p.m. today.
Elkins’ book, Skull Duggery, will be featured.
Elkins, who lives in Sequim, has published two dozen crime novels.
The book was published by Berkeley.

Motorcycle ride
PORT ANGELES — Registration for the Band of Brothers MC Poker Run will take place at the Junction Road House, 242701 W. U.S. Highway 101, between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Saturday.
The ride will end at Mill Creek Bar and Grill in Forks at 4:30 p.m.
Cost to participate is $10 a person, which includes hamburgers and overnight camping.
Proceeds will benefit “Sarge’s Place,” a transitional housing project for veterans.

Sidewalk sale
PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend Main Street Program will present the 2009 Sizzling Summer Sidewalk Sale this Saturday through Monday.
Aside from sidewalk sales at 10 a.m. each day, the Jefferson County Historical Society will lead Guided Walking Tours on Saturday and Sunday.
Other Saturday events will include the Dream City Idol Performance and Party and the First Saturday Gallery Walk.

Art festival
QUILCENE — The third annual Summer Olympic Art Festival will be held at Olympic Art Gallery, 40 Washington St., from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
Numerous artists will demonstrate their art methods.
Artists will include Charlie and Sally Brown, Mary Ellen Gilberg, Randy and Patti Hopfer, Beverly and Dean Nelson, Patricia Taynton, Ed Burke and David Hards.

Music Shindig
QUILCENE — The fourth annual Quilcene Music Shindig, “music on the back porch,” will take place at the Old Quilcene Movie Theater, located on U.S. Highway 101, from noon until dusk on Saturday.
Five bands will perform, including Locust Street Taxi.
Participants should bring guitars.
There is no cost to attend.
Healing lecture
PORT ANGELES — Dr. Michele Galante, a member of the Bruno Groening Circle of Friends, will present a lecture about spiritual healing Saturday.
The lecture, “Healing on the Spiritual Path — The Key to Tomorrow’s Health,” will be at 7 p.m. at Olympic Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 73 Howe Road.
Galante will talk about his own healings as well as other documented cases.
There is no cost to attend, but donations will be accepted.

Nature walk
PORT TOWNSEND — Jefferson Land Trust docents will lead a nature walk in the Quimper Wildlife Corridor on Saturday.
The walk is called “Summer Dormancy of Northwest Plant Communities.”
Participants should meet at the south end of Willamette Street, located in the Bell Street neighborhood, at 10 a.m.

Book discussion
PORT TOWNSEND — Betsy Howell, a wildlife biologist, author and Civil War re-enactor, will be the presenter at the Jefferson County Historical Society First Friday Lecture this month.
The lecture will take place in the council chamber at City Hall, 540 Water St., at 6:30 p.m. today.
Admission is by donation, which will support historical society programs.
Howell will read from and discuss her book, Acoustic Shadows, which is based on her great-great-grandfather’s Civil War diaries he kept as a Union soldier from 1862-1865 and her father’s wartime experiences during World War II.
Howell is a freelance writer and wildlife biologist for the U.S. Forest Service on the North Olympic Peninsula.
Her essays have appeared in the Oregonian, Clackamas Literary Review, South Loop Review, The Back Road to Crazy: Stories From The Field and two online journals, “Women in Natural Resources” and “The Apple Valley Review.”
Hike planned
PORT LUDLOW — A hike to Notch Pass is planned Saturday.
The forest hike of 8.6 miles, with an elevation gain of 3,000 feet, follows an old Native American route once used by early white settlers.
Participants will meet at the Bridge Deck at 8:30 a.m.
