Two North Olympic Peninsula youths look to represent Clallam County and take part in the county’s fair festivities in 2017. High school sophomores Marykate Napiontek and Janeydean O’Connor are the two candidates for the royalty court of the 2017 Clallam County Fair.
A coronation to determine who will be selected queen and princess is set for 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Home Arts Building at the Clallam County Fairgrounds. The coronation is free and open to the public.
The 2017 Clallam County Fair is Aug. 17-20. The theme is “Poultry in Motion.”
Marykate, 16, is a sophomore at Port Angeles High School and is sponsored by Angeles Pawn. Her parents are Mark and Mary Napiontek.
Marykate has been involved in the Clallam County Fair for 11 years. She is a 4-H member of Pure Country. Her 4-H projects are cats, poultry and art, and she will be showing in these areas at this year’s county fair.
She enjoys drawing, painting, riding her bike and spending time with all her animals. She also enjoys singing and participates in the Port Angeles High School choir.
Her future plans are after high school to attend medical school and work in the field of pediatrics.
Janeydean, 16, is a sophomore at Aletheia — a home-school co-op on the Olympic Peninsula — and is sponsored by Nutrition Trails, Berneking Concrete Homes and Steve Gish Attorney at Law. Her mother is Becky O’Connor.
Janeydean is a 4-H member of Pure Country who has been involved in the Clallam County Fair for five years. Her 4-H project is poultry, and she will be showing in that area at this year’s county fair.
She is a ballet dancer who enjoys writing and music. She plays oboe in the Northwinds Homeschool Band. Her future plan after high school is to attend college and perhaps become an orthodontist.
