FORKS — Dazzled by Twilight owners Annette and Tim Root will be adding some cuisine in the Twilight theme to Forks next year.
The Roots plan to open a family-dining restaurant called Volterra sometime next year, Annette Root said.
The restaurant will include a bar area, she said.
“We have a lot of renovations and permitting and licenses we need to get, so it probably will be spring before we open,” she said.
The restaurant will be a “steak and seafood restaurant” that will serve three meals a day, she said, adding that it will be family-friendly while selling alcohol.
The restaurant will be named Volterra after an Italian city that appears several times in the four-novel Twilight saga set in Forks.
Twilight, by author Stephenie Meyer, tells the story of Bella Swan and her vampire sweetheart, Edward Cullen. In the second book, New Moon, the romance is complicated by another suitor for Bella, her best friend Jacob Black.
Vampire aristocracy
The Volturi — who are the equivalent of vampire aristocracy and enforce the vampire law — live in Volterra.
Bella and Edward have an up close and personal encounter with the Volturi in the second book.
In addition to being the “ruling” vampires, they also have gifts which they use to their full advantage.
For example, seemingly innocent Jane has the ability to inflict ultimate pain on those around her without even touching them.
Alec — another of the Volturi — has the power to cut off the senses of those around him.
The restaurant has applied for a liquor license, but it has not yet been processed.
Mayor Nedra Reed said the city is working with the couple to fill out the necessary questionnaire to be submitted to the state Liquor Control Board.
Restaurants in Forks do not require a special permit, but because it will have a bar area, a conditional use permit is required, Reed said.
“We are working with them to resolve any parking issues, and we at the city actually think we have some ideas to resolve that,” she said.
Community comments
Along with the questionnaire, she said the city would also include community letters and comments such as the one written by Janet Hughes, owner of JT’s Sweet Stuffs, which is across the street from the building proposed for the restaurant.
Hughes said that she objects to the liquor license for the restaurant.
The Twilight Lounge is already open for special activities. The Mitch Hansen Band, which has a Twilight theme, has performed several concerts there.
Every Saturday evening, the lounge offers activities for fans, which range from video games to movies or concerts.
