Twilight sequel: Breaking Dawn release prompts midnight store openings

The newest book in Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight saga — Breaking Dawn — will be released Saturday — and several stores are opening the first minute of the day.

Area stores are revving up with Friday midnight openings and parties.

Forks stores opening at midnight to sell the books include the Fern Gallery and Chinook Pharmacy.

  • Fern Gallery, 11 N, Forks Ave., will open at 12:01 a.m. with treats and books to release Breaking Dawn.

Although fans can get the books at most bookstores across the nation, getting it in Forks is something special, said Jo Ann Allen, owner of Fern Gallery.

“We’ll also open up at dawn on Saturday to celebrate Breaking Dawn,” Allen said.

The sun is expected to rise at about 5:50 a.m. Saturday.

The store is required to keep its stock of books sealed until the clock strikes 12:01 a.m., she said.

  • Chinook Pharmacy, 11 S. Forks Ave., also will open at midnight for fans who want to get their copies as early as possible.

“It will be a lot of fun,” said Peggy King, pharmacy assistant.

“We’ll, of course, have all of our T-shirts and other merchandise available, too.”

For more information, or to pre-order a book, phone 360-374-5030.

  • Leppell’s Flowers & Gifts, 130 S. Spartan Ave. Forks, will open with merchandise and treats for the midnight celebration, owner Charlene Cross said.

“We don’t have the book available here, but we wanted to be open in support of the other stores that will be open at midnight,” she said.

    For more information, phone 360-374-6931.

  • Forks Outfitters, 950 S. Forks Ave., also has the books on hand.

The store carries Twilight-inspired memorabilia, such as T-shirts designed for the occasion.

The store is a highlight on the Twilight Tours offered by the Forks Chamber of Commerce.

Store employees have seen many people checking out where Bella regularly shopped in the book, said Marcia Bingham, Forks Chamber of Commerce executive director.

The store will not have a midnight party but will have the book ready the next day.

    For more information, phone 360-374-6161.
