PORT ANGELES — An annual pruning regimen, local Master Gardeners note, is needed to encourage strong new growth and promote good berry production. Commonly used pruning techniques, however, can be counterproductive with blueberries.
From 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Clallam County Master Gardeners Jeanette Stehr-Green and Audreen Williams will teach home gardeners how to prune their blueberry bushes for productivity, using videos recorded at the Fifth Street Community Garden in Port Angeles.
In “Pruning Blueberries for Productivity,” the pair will describe the typical growth pattern of blueberries and outline a systematic approach to pruning.

Stehr-Green has been a Master Gardener since 2003 and was the 2012 Clallam County Veteran Master Gardener of the Year. She completed Oregon State University’s Online Blueberry School in 2019.
Williams joined Master Gardeners in 2012 and was the 2014 and 2019 Clallam County Veteran Master Gardener of the Year. Both Stehr-Green and Williams have attained Lifetime Achievement status with Clallam County Master Gardeners and have many years of experience growing berries of all types.
This presentation is the first in the “Digging Deeper” educational series by Clallam County Master Gardeners that will occur on selected Saturdays through the growing season and focus on basic gardening topics relevant to most home gardeners.
Presentations are held on the first and third Saturdays of most months and cover basic gardening topics relevant to many home gardeners. Sessions are scheduled for 90-minutes to allow for demonstrations or videos and questions from viewers.
