Tree planting, book discussions and divisive issues conversations are happening on the North Olympic Peninsula on Wednesday.

Tree planting party

CLALLAM BAY — The North Olympic Salmon Coalition is seeking volunteers to plant trees and native shrubs at the Pysht River Conservation Area from 9:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Interested volunteers can get details on the location and parking when they RSVP at tinyurl.com/PDN-Plant-Trees.

The party might also return at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, depending on the progress of Wednesday’s work.

The coalition also has work parties planned for Feb. 8 at Discovery Bay; Feb. 15 and Feb. 19 at the Dungeness River; and Feb. 29 at Siebert Creek.

Book discussion

PORT ANGELES — The Wednesday Evening Book Discussion Group will discuss “There There” by Tommy Orange at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The group meets at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

In February, the group will discuss “Sapiens: a Brief History of Humankind” by Yuval Noah Harari.

PORT ANGELES — Mason’s Lodge 69 will host bingo from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Soup’s On

SEQUIM — Soup’s On is set for noon Wednesday.

The free program at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave., is open to the community.

The meal includes a bowl of meat or vegetarian soup, a roll, salad and a small dessert.

Book discussion

SEQUIM — The Novel Conversations Book Discussion Group will discuss “The Goldfinch” by Donna Tartt at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

The group meets at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., the fourth Wednesday of each month.

Next month the group will discuss “Calypso” by David Sedaris.

Divisive issues

PORT HADLOCK — Ken Ing will present a lecture on divisive issues from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The lecture is part of the four-part series, “Divisive Issues in Our Time,” at the Jefferson County Library, 620 Cedar Ave.

Ing will discuss Europe’s social spending policies and how their success could be a lesson for the United States.

Next week, Joyce Francis will return to review the dismantlement of the liberal international order and its implications for global security.

The lecture series is co-sponsored by the library and by Quimper Unitarian Universalist Adult Learning Programs.
