PORT ANGELES — It’ll be a Fourth of July fireworks double header, a “majestic” view of the pyrotechnics from the high plateau at The Landing mall, Andy Griffiths promises.
He’s manager of Wine on the Waterfront at The Landing and an orchestrator of the first Independence Day parking lot party, to get started at 6 p.m. Monday on the top level of the mall’s parking structure at the north end of Lincoln Street.
Admission is $5 for adults and teens, while children 12 and younger get in free to the party, where Smuggler’s Landing will dish up suppers for sale — burgers, hot dogs, ribs, french fries — and a beer and wine garden will be open.
Through the evening, Jason Mogi and Paul Stehr-Green will supply “eclectic, danceable bluegrass,” added Landing mall co-owner Sarah Cronauer.
Then, at around 10 p.m., the city of Port Angeles will put on its annual fireworks display over the waterfront — and “The Landing will also be firing off a second volley of jaw-dropping fireworks after the city’s, so the party will continue long into the night,” said Griffiths.
Officially, it will go until midnight, so party-goers are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets.
In addition, The Landing mall’s newest totem pole, a 22-footer carved by Milton “Ole” Olson, will be dedicated at 7 p.m. Monday, added the mall’s Paul Cronauer.
“We want to turn it into a nice festival,” he said. “We’re hoping the community will come on out and enjoy.”
