Tai chi program to teach seniors better balance

SEQUIM — Soroptimist International of Sequim will host “Better Balance with Tai Chi,” a free program that covers ways to maintain good balance, from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

The program will be at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave.

Physical therapist Michael Siegel will present a routine designed specifically to help seniors reduce the risk of falling. Siegel has for many years practiced physical therapy in California, Japan and elsewhere.

He developed Functional Tai Chi in response to senior citizens who are statistically more likely to experience falls as they continue to age.

Reservations are not required. Tennis shoes are recommended.

Light refreshments will be served.

The program is part of “Tea with S.H.E. (Soroptimists Helping and Empowering),” a series of free, semi-annual seminars/presentations aimed primarily at issues faced by mature and older women in Sequim and the surrounding areas. They are open to women and men of all ages.
