Shipwrights’ Regatta set for Saturday

PORT TOWNSEND — The sailboat racing season opens Saturday with the Port Townsend Shipwrights’ Regatta.

The Port Townsend Sailing Association presents the 33rd annual Shipwrights’ Regatta with support from the Northwest Maritime Center.

The skippers’ meeting is at 10 a.m. with the two-lap, four-mile race beginning at noon.

The public can view the event from Indian Point, The Pourhouse, along the bluff on Washington Street and from many places along Water Street.

All boats are welcome.

The annual event, which began in 1991, offers unique trophies, which will be presented at the Northwest Maritime Center with free pizza and beer after the race.

Participants also have the opportunity to win a free haul-out from the Port of Port Townsend or Sea Marine.
