Sequim’s Bacon opens Legislative session in song

OLYMPIA — Sequim resident Amanda Bacon performed the National Anthem to open the state legislative session in Olympia earlier this month.

Bacon was nominated by 24th District Sen. Kevin Van De Wege and selected by others at the state capitol to perform the “Star Spangled Banner” on Jan. 8, officially marking the start of the session.

“I am honored to have been nominated and then chosen to sing for the start of the 2024 Legislative session,” Bacon said in a press release. “To be in a room with the men and women who serve our state is humbling and awe inspiring.”

A lifelong resident of Sequim, Bacon has performed as a featured vocalist locally, regionally and nationally since she was a young child. She currently fronts Black Diamond Junction and performs in both a Patsy Cline Tribute show and a nationally renowned John Denver tribute show.

When not performing on stage, Bacon is also a radio personality and promotions director for Radio Pacific, operators of KONP, KSTI and KZQM in Sequim and Port Angeles.
