GARDINER — Bluegrass, birds of prey and the Bistro Boys will converge on Wild Birds Unlimited’s garden for an Earth Day celebration Saturday, with free admission for all from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
This is the seventh annual Earth Day party at Wild Birds, and it brings the chance to see up close the hawks, falcons and owls from the Northwest Raptor & Wildlife Center of Sequim.
Director Jaye Moore will be on hand with a few rehabilitated raptors, as will a raft of other local organizations. The Dungeness River Audubon Center, Peninsula Friends of Animals, Jefferson County Beach Watchers and the Tribal Edge Primal Arts Training Center of Blyn are just a few. Artists Natalie Brown and Bob Weir, whose medium is recycled metal, also plan to come.
The live soundtrack will be supplied by Cort Armstrong and the Northwest Bluegrass Band, while the Bistro Boys Garden Grill crew will lay out lunch in the native plant garden.
Baby blankets
Wild Birds Unlimited co-owner Christie Lassen invites visitors to bring lawn chairs and picnic blankets — plus a blanket to give to the center.
“Spring is baby season for the center, and they are in dire need of supplies,” she added.
“They are looking for donations of aquariums in good condition, dog food, small animal-watering bottles and baby bottles to feed the baby deer,” while cash donations are welcome as well.
