SEQUIM — The Sequim City Band will present a concert of Christmas classics at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Sequim High School auditorium, 533 N. Sequim Ave.
Under the direction of Tyler Benedict, the band will perform such holiday favorites as Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride,” Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus” and Irving Berlin’s “Happy Holidays” and “White Christmas.”
Clement Clark Moore’s iconic poem “ ’Twas the Night Before Christmas” will be narrated by a special guest in his kerchief and cap. This piece is punctuated by various musical “emojis” to illustrate Moore’s text.
“Midnight Sleighride” is from Prokofiev’s “Lieutenant Kije Suite.”
A medley of Hebrew songs will be presented in “Hanukkah, Festival of Lights.”
Washington composer Morten Lauridsen has written a piece called “O Magnum Mysterium” that organizers expect to become a seasonal favorite.
A holiday concert would not be complete without a Christmas carol singalong and the Band obliges with “Merry Christmas Everyone.”
As a special treat, the saxophone section will present three pieces: “Still, Still, Still,” “The First Noel” and “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.” The Saxologists include Debbi Soderstrom, Mary Lou Montgomery, Mary Lowery and Mark Condran.
