Self-guided tour replaces final Garden Walk

PORT ANGELES — With COVID-19 cases in Clallam County skyrocketing, WSU Clallam County have canceled the final 2021 Second Saturday Garden Walk at Fifth Street Community Garden, 328 E. Fifth St., Port Angeles, originally scheduled for Saturday.

Instead, the group will resume the self-guided garden tour format showcased earlier this summer.

On Saturday, flagging poles will be erected marking 10 focal points around the garden. Participants are invited to pick up a tour sheet at the station labeled No. 1, locate the other numbered stations and test their gardening knowledge.

The tour sheet will inform and direct tour takers to additional pertinent WSU publications.

The tour will be available through Saturday, Sept. 30.

September topics will likely include saving seeds, harvesting winter squash, getting tomatoes to ripen, and putting the garden to bed.

Self-guided tours maybe taken during daylight hours at the Fifth Street Community Garden.

Participants are welcomed to enjoy the garden but to refrain from sampling fruits and vegetables unless invited by garden renters.

The garden was originally established in 2011 to connect people to their community while growing food. The garden includes more than 50 individual 9-foot-by-12-foot plots that are rented to community members and is open during daylight hours.

For more information about the self-guided garden tours, call 360-565-2679.
