Second clue in film festival contest revealed

The second clue in the Port Townsend Film Festival’s 2006 “Guess-the-Guest” contest is revealed today

Hidden within four clues offered Wednesdays during four weeks is the identity of the featured celebrity guest for the film festival, which will be held Sept. 15-17.

* First clue: Howard Schultz has nothing on our guest.

* Second clue: Another kind of tailor.

The third clue will be issued July 19, and the final clue will be revealed July 26.

The identity of this year’s Port Townsend Film Festival guest will be revealed on Aug. 2.

Previous guests have included such film stars from the 1950s and ’60s as Tony Curtis, Eva Marie Saint, Patricia Neal, Shirley Knight, Peter Fonda, Jane Powell, Dickie Moore, Debra Winger and Arliss Howard.

The winning contestant will be selected at random from those who correctly guess the name of the guest by July 31.

The winner will be introduced to and have a photograph taken with the guest at a special reception during the festival.

Entries can be made:

* By mail to Port Townsend Film Festival, P.O. Box 594, Port Townsend, WA 98368.

* By e-mail to contest@ptfilmfest.com (write “Guest” in the subject line).

* In person to the Port Townsend Film Festival office, Mount Baker Block building, 211 Taylor St., Suite 33, third floor, corner of Water and Taylor Streets.

In addition to listing the name of the guest, contestants should include their mailing address, e-mail address (if any), and a daytime phone number.

“We try to make the early clues tough,” said Peter Simpson, the festival’s executive director who also holds the responsibilities of programming.

“In previous years, our clues have been a bit too easy and folks were able to easily find the identity of the guest through Google, the Internet search engine.”

The film festival has gone deeper into the guests’ backgrounds to find information not readily available, Simpson said.

“The third and fourth clues will be more revealing,” he said.

The featured guest will be interviewed by Robert Osborne, Turner Classic Movies host and minority owner of The Rose Theatre in Port Townsend, on the theater’s stage on Saturday night, Sept. 16, along with a screening of one of the guest’s films.

The person will make other appearances during the festival, Simpson said.
