Ribbon cutting slated for Trinity United Methodist in Port Townsend

PORT TOWNSEND — Trinity United Methodist Church will conduct a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its Cornerstone remodeling project at 1:45 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18.

The church is at 609 Taylor St.

The ceremony will be followed by an open house with cookies and carols from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The renovation includes an elevator connecting the main floor to the fellowship hall in the basement as well as a handicapped-accessible entrance and two ADA-compliant restrooms on the main floor.

The project was designed to modernize accessibility while retaining the historic character of the 150-year-old building, according to a press release.

The project has taken place during the pandemic, which has minimized disruptions to church activities. However, increased building costs have resulted in the project going over budget.

The church stated that a surprise bequest from the founder of Aldrich’s Market could cover the budget overages.
