Red Wine, Cider, Chocolate Tour offered on second weekend

The second weekend of the Olympic Peninsula Wineries’ 2019 Red Wine, Cider & Chocolate Tour is Saturday and Sunday.

The self-guided tour of nine wineries and cideries will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.

Tour tickets are $40 online and include wine, cider and chocolate pairings at all nine venues, plus a commemorative wine glass. Tickets purchased at the door of participating venues are $45.

Independently, each winery/cidery charges a $10 per person tasting fee.

Originally scheduled for the weekends of Feb. 9-10 and Feb. 16-18, massive snowfall and chilly temperatures made travel to the tour’s nine wineries between Chimacum and Port Angeles too risky for visitors and employees, and forced the wineries to cancel the first weekend’s event.

With temperatures climbing and the snow starting to melt, however, tour organizers see clear roads for traveling on the second weekend.

“This has been such an unusual February,” said Lisa Martin, Olympic Peninsula Wineries president.

“We’ve dealt with less than perfect weather during a couple past February tours — the occasional deluge — but never a severe snowstorm.

“We want to make good for all the folks who had purchased tour tickets and planned to come out on Feb. 9-10.”

The tour includes new wine and hard cider releases paired with sweet and savory chocolate treats and live music, tour organizers say.
