Quilcene Oyster run set for Saturday

The races are tailored for varying ages and abilities.

QUILCENE — The fourth annual Quilcene Oyster Half Marathon, 10K and 5K races will begin and end at the Linger Longer Outdoor Performance Theater on the grounds of Worthington Park on Saturday morning after a spaghetti feed tonight.

The Lions Club will serve a spaghetti dinner in the Quilcene School multipurpose room at 294715 U.S. Highway 101 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today. At 6 p.m., Key City Public Theatre will put on a cabaret show, “I Feel a Song Coming On,” a celebration of women songwriters.

Seating is limited. Adult admission for the dinner and show is $15. Students from ages 6 to 12 will be admitted for $5. Family tickets are $40.

Children 5 and younger will be admitted free.

Tickets can be purchased at www.keycitypublic theatre.org or through members of the Quilcene Lions Club.

Those who have preregistered for the race can pick up packets at the dinner. Or participants can register at Worthington Park, next door to the Quilcene Museum at 151 E. Columbia St. in Quilcene, on Saturday beginning at 7 a.m.

Registration for adults is $30 prior to race day and $35 on race day for the 5K Fun Run, $40 and $45 for the 10K, and $60 and $65 for the half-marathon.

Registration for students 18 and younger is the same both before race day and on the day of the race: $25 for the 5K, $35 for the 10K and $60 for the half-marathon.

The Jefferson Healthcare Kids’ Sprint, a free event for children 9 and younger, will begin at 10:05 a.m. at Worthington Park. Three heats will match runners’ ages.

The half-marathon will begin at 9 a.m. — or 8 a.m. for walkers. The course covers 13.09 miles and features views of Hood Canal and Quilcene Bay as it winds through forest.

The 10K will begin at 10 a.m. The 6.17-mile course offer views of Quilcene Bay, farms and forests.

Both the half-marathon and the 10K are certified and sanctioned by USA Track and Field. The race courses will be closed at 12:30 p.m.

The 5K, which begins at 10 a.m., is a 3.11-mile run or walk along Quilcene Bay that, unlike the half-marathon and 10K, has few hills. Baby strollers will be welcome.

The Jefferson Healthcare Foundation is sponsoring a 5K team challenge open to any organization.

Cash prizes for the first-, second- and third-fastest teams, as well as for the most entrants, will be given to the charity of the winners’ choice in the organization’s name.

The event is hosted by Quilcene-Brinnon Dollars for Scholars, which raises funds for scholarships, and Count Me in for Quilcene, a nonprofit organization providing support for community projects.

Concessions will line the grounds and Hood Canal oysters and craft beers from Highway 101 Brewery will be served at completion.

Information can be found at www.Quilcene HalfMarathon.com or Facebook.com/Quilcene HalfMarathon.
