On July 8, Clallam County Master Gardener Mike Barnes will lead a presentation entitled “Planting Natives in the Garden” in Sequim.

SEQUIM — Clallam County Master Gardener Mike Barnes will lead a presentation on native plants at 10 a.m. Saturday.

“Planting Natives in the Garden” will be at the Master Gardener’s Woodcock Demonstration Garden, 2711 Woodcock Road, Sequim.

The presentation is free and open to the public.

Barnes will discuss how to successfully grow several different types of natives on the Olympic Peninsula. Growing native plants will reduce maintenance and water needs in the home garden, he said.

Attendees also will learn how to increase the native wildlife and pollinators by growing natives. In addition, Barnes will include a little Northwest history on naming some of the area’s native plants and areas.

Barnes has owned several small businesses including greenhouses, a lavender farm, and both retail and wholesale nurseries.

This presentation is part of the “Saturday in the Garden” lecture series at the Master Gardener Demonstration Garden. To find the complete listing of lectures throughout the summer months, visit http:// extension.wsu.edu/clallam/.
